･ GENERAL INFO
ﾗ Depth&Volume is a Control Panel that lets you change the main screen depth (i.e. the number of colors displayed) or the speaker's volume on the fly with a keystroke. I made it because many people I know were using huge commercial macro packages (requiring lots of system RAM and often causing errors) only to perform these two simple operations. Depth&Volume is very small (it uses about 2K of system memory) and very easy to use, and it only costs $5.
･ HOW TO INSTALL IT
ﾗ Move the Depth&Volume control panel to your Control Panels folder (inside the System folder) and restart your Macintosh. Use the control panel to enable/disable the depth and volume keys, to set your preferred key combinations and to turn the startup icon on or off.
･ THE KEYS
ﾗ The keys used to change depth or volume can be configured by changing the combination of modifier keys (Command, Shift, Caps Lock, Option and Control) or the key set used (main keyboard, numeric keypad or function keys).
･ CHANGING THE MAIN SCREEN DEPTH
ﾗ The following keys may be used (where "ｽ" is the modifier keys combination selected in the control panel for the depth keys and 1-8 are the keys in the chosen keyset):
- ｽ1 = Change to 1 bit (black and white);
- ｽ2 = Change to 2 bit (4 colors or greys);
- ｽ3 = Change to 4 bit (16 colors or greys);
- ｽ4 = Change to 8 bit (256 colors or greys);
- ｽ5 = Change to 16 bit (thousands of colors);
- ｽ6 = Change to 32 bit (millions of colors);
- ｽ7 = Switch to greyscale mode;
- ｽ8 = Switch to color mode.
･ CHANGING THE SPEAKER'S VOLUME
ﾗ The following keys may be used (where "ﾆ" is the modifier keys combination selected in the control panel for the volume keys and 0-7 are the number keys in the chosen keyset):
- ﾆ0 = Silent (menu bar flash);
- ﾆ1 = Volume 1 (quietest);
- ﾆ2 = Volume 2 (quieter);
- ﾆ3 = Volume 3 (quiet);
- ﾆ4 = Volume 4 (medium);
- ﾆ5 = Volume 5 (loud);
- ﾆ6 = Volume 6 (louder);
- ﾆ7 = Volume 7 (loudest).
